Diploma in Teaching Evidence Based Exercise to Older People

This is a very practical course, however it is vitally important that the skills gained are founded upon a good understanding of sound, evidence based theory, both are therefore included in the course syllabus.

 
Module 1 - Anatomy & Physiology

u     the human body & how it works

u     basic human needs

u     introduction to good nutrition  

 

Module 2 - Ageing & Disease

u     the effects of ageing

u     diseases & conditions associated with ageing

u     relevant medications

u     promoting safety in the home & the prevention of accidents

Module 3 - Evidence Based Exercise

u     promoting an active lifestyle

u     principles of exercise

u     evidence based exercise for people with ongoing health conditions & diseases including frequent falls, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, includes the FaME and Otago programmes and an introduction to Tai Chi exercises

u     planning to teach a range of safe & simple exercises to older people

u     teaching a range of safe & simple exercises to older people

u     evaluating the session and own performance

u     communication skills

u     equality & diversity

u     data protection

u     health, safety & risk assessment

u     basic first aid

u     CPR skills

u     manual handling

u     business awareness - staying within the law
