Complete First Aid 

This course is suitable for all people wishing to gain the knowledge, competence and confidence required to provide emergency life support, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid.  

The course is based on the most recent edition of the First Aid Manual (currently the 9th edition) and will cover the following:

u     duties of a first aider

u     the first aid kit and other resources

u     maintaining accurate records

u     managing an incident

u     assessing a casualty

u     the unconscious casualty

u     medical emergencies

u     conditions affecting the respiratory system

u     conditions affecting the circulatory system

u     conditions affecting the nervous system

u     injuries to bones, joints & muscles

u     burns & scalds

u     the effects of heat & cold

u     foreign objects, poisoning, bites & stings

u     techniques and equipment

Duration of the Course

The course will last for 20 hours

Assessments

As well as the ongoing assessment of knowledge and skills gained, you will be required to take part in incident role plays in order to demonstrate an active knowledge of current recommendations concerning CPR, emergency life support and first aid treatment.   There will be three parts to the assessment:

u     cardiopulmonary resuscitation on a manikin - the assessor will act as a willing bystander

u     the management of an unconscious but breathing casualty - no help will be available

u     the correct treatment of a casualty suffering with one or more of the following:

u     medical emergency

u     severe bleeding

u     shock

u     severe burn

u     choking

u     sprain or strain

A first aid box will be available and the assessor will be a willing bystander
